The Little Leaf

Quivering
The leaf comes loose
By winds unseen
Is carried thither
It turns and twirls
Away to places
Not yet seen

And then you say
"That cannot be"
But still it flies
And turns and twirls
Only smiling unto you
On winds unseen

Oh yes
It smiled
And turned and twirled
"What did it think?"
You want to ask
As it so turned
And sped away

For leaves have thoughts
And they do dream
And this one craved
The unseen wind
And freedom’s scent
Away in places
Not yet known

So one day hence
When all’s forgot
It will touch down
In lands of sun
By crystal waters
Shimmering
