FiNCK by Nifflas

Always the avid Nifflas fan, I get rather excited every time there's a new title on the horizon from him.  Inspired by Lyle in Cube Sector, the next release from Nifflas comes to us on May 12 in the form of FiNCK.  In the developer's own words, "FiNCK contains some of the best gameplay in a Nifflas game."

Facebook "Like" Button Next to Blogger Post Titles

Just a few days ago Facebook released the "Like" button onto the rest of the web. Since I enjoy the idea of disseminating my content on Facebook, I wanted to add this button to my posts.

This proved a bit challenging for two reasons. First, the placement of the code proved tricky because I wanted it to be on the same line as my post's title. Second, the vanilla code from Facebook's generator only applies to the URL you input, and if you're like me will assume that this needs to be your blog's address.

Because a global "Like" button for your blog is a bit useless, it needs to apply to each individual post. A search for further instructions turned up nothing on account of this feature being so new.  Fortunately, I was able to get this question answered after posting it on LinkedIn's Q&A, and was directed to a great post on how to accomplish this over at Devfuel.

If you would also like to add this new feature to your Blogger site or blog, head on over to the post and grab the modified code. It manages to properly incorporate the "data:post.url" variable instead of what is provided by the generator. If you are also wondering how to place it right after your post's title such as you can see above, then simply look for the "b:includable id='post' var='post'" section and place the code immediately before "/a" closing tag.

*Would have posted the full code to look for and insert, but can't seem to change Blogger's behavior of interpreting the code (even with /code tags).

Rare Vintage '80s Handheld Games

Friend of mine has a collection of some fantastic vintage LCD games.  These have got to be worth a good chunk, and I would love to get them just to have in my collection.  Check out the items in her Etsy shop.

Ah yes.  Opinions, no empathy, convenience, attention, and ads!  That's the net alright.  Meds, meds, meds!

Les 8bit Cafe

I would LOVE to dine at the 8bit Cafe. Especially want to have a Doctor Mario cocktail.  Methinks we need us one of those stateside. Maybe there is one somewhere... so if you know about it, tell me!

Farewell Bloodynose T_T

Via Bloodynose ( ~_~).

It was just recently that I discovered Bloodynose on Tumblr. It presented some excellent artwork and I instantly loved the blog. Sadly, today I discovered that it is no more. The incognito owner felt it was too much pressure to cruise the webs for multiple new posts everyday, and I couldn't agree more. Had somewhat of a similar experience here not too long ago.

Still, I had hoped that the blog would not be completely removed so I could come back to it and peruse the older posts. Alas, it was not meant to be. So here's to you, stranger of Bloodynose. Good luck to you, wherever you are!

Go YMCK, Go!

As I turn to a friend and say "very nice, but the sugary sweet 8-bit sounds have caused by pixelated teeth to all rot out."

Brainy Gamer on Sleep is Death

Michael Abbot never disappoints with his insightful posts on Brainy Gamer.  Here's the new "Sleep is Death player manual (and guide to better living)."  Enjoy.

New Direction is a Go!

It's settled then.  My intention will be to post smaller items, less text, more visuals.  So yeah, it's pretty much like what is being done with Tumblr, but whatever.  I like it.  Besides, I have been wanting to post more art related material for some time now.

What is this blog anyway?

Since I haven't updated the old blog in a long time, I have begun to question its purpose. First, it seems pretty obvious that nobody reads it, so that begs the question of why even bother with it. On top of that, I don't feel that I have the time to write big posts anymore. It was fun for a while and I amused myself with it somewhat.

Now things have gotten stale, and it's time to do something about it. I may or may not keep up with this old thing, but I will try to change directions. Seems that Facebook has taken over the role of a blog these days. I admit that it seems less convenient to blog than it is to post on Facebook. But maybe I can bridge the two, and post smaller updates. If I can find a way to tie things together more, it may bring some life to Mentisworks.

In the meantime I will be changing the layout yet again. Time to simplify. This custom layout seemed like a good idea at the time, but it has had its share of problems. It is time to clean out the bugs and go back to the basics. Wish me luck!
